"In the AHHHHHHHH-lps"

Films: Blood Glacier (2013)

Alias: None

Type: Mutant

Location: Tundra

Height/Weight: Ranges from that of mosquitoes to that of average goats.

Affiliation: Neutral

Summary: There is never not a good year for films focusing on Carpenter-style body horror and the savagery that ensues. While this one doesn't show its horrors in full most of the time, it's just enough to make us never want to go anywhere that has a slight natural tint of red to it where there should be none.

History: Somewhere in the Austrian Alps, a very strange area has been discovered. It is a glacier that's covered in crimson color. But this is no ordinary crimson. It is actually a collective of bacteria that some of the animals have ingested, particularly the insects. Any creature that gets these little things in their body will end up mutating into horrible and violent versions of themselves. And anything that eats the infected will become grotesque hybrids with an equal amount of bloodlust. And when the area is full of mosquitoes that suck up the stuff, nothing, man or beast, is safe from becoming the unspeakable.

Notable Kills: A mutant pill bug eats a person’s face off before being removed.

Final Fate: In the end, every awful creature made by the bacteria is killed in one way or another. However, the place hasn't been nuked as it should be, and one of the infected people gave birth to a mutant child. In spite of all the horror, the survivors adopt it.

Powers/Abilities: The bacteria combine the DNA of their host with whatever they ate before, transforming them into monsters.

Weakness: Anything conventional.

Scariness Factor: 4-While there are some fake-looking shots, almost everything made by the blood glacier is the stuff nightmares are made of. The flying bird-wasp and the fox-beetle are instant contenders for the most deranged-looking, but sometimes, the worst is the smaller creatures. Mosquitoes are bad enough on their own. There was no reason to make them ten times the infectious scourge they are.

Trivia: -There is indeed a glacier that's blood-red...but this place, known as the Blood Falls, is merely a large amount of iron oxide-filled saltwater going down some ice in Victoria Land, East Antarctica. Chances are it was the inspiration for this film.

-This film was also known as "The Station".

"Well, this isn't the wake-up call I wanted."

The precursor to Annhiliation?
"Honey, I don't feel so good."

Leave the infection to the most annoying creatures ever, yeah.

Satan's lab experiment is here!

A real pill, if you know what I mean.

That's it! We're investing in baaseball bats!
